The Good Years (Karine Polwart)

I got the idea for this video while travelling home on a train.

I’d thought… the good years… could well be about happy memories… and perhaps childhood ones.

So I collected and edited clips from seven different short films and put them in the sequences I thought fitted best.

And I liked the idea of reversing one of those in the part of the song where the lines are “we’re singing without fears” and “we’re clinging without fears” and ending with a still from the animated film.

That’s it really. Its a short but sweet song that I love very much and it has beautiful melodies.

FULL LYRICS

Wherever you are
You shall be my star
Flashing near or smouldering far

I am happy when I bask in your light
All I ask is that you may bask
All I ask…

Wherever you are
You shall be my star
Flashing near or smouldering far

Wherever you are
You shall be my star
Flashing near or smouldering far

In my mind I hear the sound
Of every happy fount
Fresh as fresh is found
Fresh as fresh is found

Wherever you are
You shall be my star
Flashing near or smouldering far

Wherever you are
You shall be my star
Flashing near or smouldering far

We’re singing without tears
We’re clinging without fears

We’re singing without tears
We’re clinging without fears

These the good years
These the good years

Wherever you are
You shall be my star
Flashing near or smouldering far

Wherever you are
You shall be my star
Flashing near or smouldering far

We’re singing without tears
We’re clinging without fears

We’re singing without tears
We’re clinging without fears
